Best cloud storage alternatives
Here’s a post for alternatives to Big Tech cloud storage:
- Filen, based in Germany, offers “reliable zero-knowledge, client-side encrypted cloud storage.”
- Sync.com, which appears to be based in Canada, acts as an alternative for Google Drive, Sharepoint, and Dropbox.
- Jottacloud, based in Norway, where data is “both encrypted and protected by strict Norwegian and European privacy laws.”
- Nextcloud is an open-source solution for a self-hosted cloud (i.e., on your own local hardware). More for teams than individuals: “Teams [can] access, share and edit their documents, chat and participate in video calls and manage their mail and calendar and projects across mobile, desktop and web interfaces.”
- Tresorit (recommended by a pro-democracy activist on Techtonic in 2022, as I wrote about here) offers encrypted hosting and sending of documents, both for individuals and teams.
- pCloud, secure cloud storage based in Switzerland.
- Proton Drive, secure cloud storage from the makers of Proton Mail.
- Yunohost is " a non-profit technocritical project, developed and maintained by volunteers. We advocate a decentralized Internet, with open, interoperable technologies that respect privacy and empower people."
